The Mission: Impossible series goes from strength to strength, plans for a Jack Reacher sequel are being discussed and Van Helsing is intended as a series starter but, even still, Tom Cruise is thinking about slipping another franchise film onto his resume. Greedy?
According to Deadline, Cruise is “in early negotiations” to star in The Man from UNCLE. This movie version of a 1960s spy caper TV series – sound familiar? – is being developed by director Guy Ritchie.
There are two lead spies in The Man From UNCLE. I can’t imagine Cruise will be playing the Russian Illya Kuryakin, so I expect he’s the American Napoleon Solo, as played by Robert Vaughn in the original. They do look quite alike…
But who looks like David McCallum as Kuryakin? Apart from Neil Hann from The Divine Comedy?
You know, maybe we’ll see Tom Cruise in a smaller, less action-driven film again one day. I miss those ones.
