While it may seem to Whovians as if it has been light years since the last episode of the widely popular BBC series Doctor Who, there is some good news on the horizon. Our favorite Time Lord will be back soon enough, and when he does return, he will have a brand new villain to go up against. BBC America announced yesterday that actress Keeley Hawes would be joining the series in a guest role as a villain in Season 8 of Doctor Who.
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the Twelfth Doctor, played in the series by the brilliant Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, will have a new villain to go up against when the show starts back up later this year.
Hawes, who also starred as the voice of Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider video game series, will be playing a woman by the name of Ms. Delphox. That just sounds evil, now doesn’t it?
According to the announcement, The Doctor and his companion Clara Oswald, who is played in the series by Jenna Coleman, will run into Ms. Delphox when they land on a “strange and puzzling planet.”
She is described by BBC America as being a “powerful out-of-this-world character with a dark secret.”
I think it will be interesting to see how the introduction of a powerful female character will affect the chemistry between The Doctor and Clara. Clara has always been rather fond of The Doctor, as most of his companions have, and it will be interesting to see how they react when a woman begins to cause trouble for one of their closest friends.
